Wild Things

This Week is all about Wild Things...

So, we kicked off the week by going to see "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2".  I really had no idea it would be about foodimals, just another coincidence I'm willing to take credit for. Every time Yang goes to the movies, he gets really into it. He roars and yells and everyone thinks it's funny. It is funny, for everyone, but it's only embarrassing for me when he gets "out of control". But they had a great time and I made a dinner inspired by the movie that they devoured too quickly for me to take a picture... that's life.

Luckily, I had already planned to make her a cheetah lunch.

They're Not Happy

Yang calls all meals "hot". He knows the different between a snack and a meal so when he says, "I want hot," I get busy. Really busy. He's only 2 but he eats like a horse... a baby horse, that's cute, demanding and little cray cray.

But sometimes, I give in to fast food. Because I work fulltime, love to do crafts, love to stay organized and clean, I try to take shortcuts to bring me peace.  However, I'm learning that some shortcuts are simply not worth it.

Take the "happy meal"....  Happy Meals make me sad; they make Ying happy and they make Yang... eh regular.

Here's how.

Ying: Mommy, can we go to Old McDonald's?
Me: Yeah, sure.
Ying: {WTF} ThiS is not Old McDonald's!
Me: Yeah but this is "the King".  Everybody has a king, right? This is the King. The King!
Ying: OHHHHH. The kinggggg.  Yay! {squeal, delight}

Ying is 6. She's delightful, oozes sensitivity, super smart, eats anything but really just wants to draw, play and snuggle all through the glittery day. So when those eyes swell with tears and the tiniest sweetest lips you've seen makes a frown... well I'm just pathetic.

Anyways, I had the Satisfries (which were Satis Factory, I'm not all wow'd out) and a Diet Coke.... and a Hershey's.Sundae.Pie. Yep... no... don't do it... yep it was good!

Ying has a $4 trash filler because she's not actually going to eat the meal she begged for. Nope, she will just be consumed with opening and putting together this nonfunctioning piece of child bait, frustrating me, frustrating her and hungry at bedtime thus prolonging bedtime and thus dabbing into my Mama time. At this point, I'm thinking, "Why did I even stop when I have leftovers that are delicious and toy free?"

And Yang? He eats his nuggets, fries, apples and juice, Ying's fries and juice and half of my pie (not cool) and it's great because all is calm in Yang land which is a rarity in the day. He's full and daydreaming about bedtime.

Ying: He has the McDoodies.

Yeah, so I am so done, so done with the farmer, the King and the like. So done, because I have convinced myself that my meals are fantastic. They are cute, compact, fun, perfectly sized and delicious.

Ying's school lunch this past Friday.

Pickles
Hamburger: Hawaiian bun, hamburger, cherry tomato slices, lettuce, American cheese
Dip: Apple Butter and Peanut Butter mixed
Fries: Apples soaked in pineapple juice

For dinner, we had the same thing with 5 tator tots.
For dessert, they each had a cup of honeydew, cantaloupe and grapes.

Ying: Ate all
Yang: At all except the pickles.
